Rocky Rah Rah Rah

A long held tradition here in LFC has been putting on a shadow cast performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at The Union a local bar in Athens. We are very excited to be putting this show on again

this year. The Rocky Horror picture show is a story about how Brad and Janet stumble upon an eerie mansion, where they will meet some Transylvanians that will change their lives.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is performed every fall semester by LFC much of the cast and crew is the same year after year because once casted you can keep your role which is a really unique part of this tradition.

But this year we are happy to see many new faces. Like our new directors of the show Anna Martin and assistant director Alexis Butt. When asked why they wanted to direct this show Anna said "I chose to do this show because of the amazing experience I had my first year with Rocky. It gave me so much confidence in myself and my ability to succeed going forward." Which shows just how special Rocky is to all who are in it.

They were nervous starting out this year with so many new cast members but Alexis said "I know now that I never had anything to worry about. Everyone is so committed and talented, and I am proud of every single person in this cast." The cast and crew have been so hard at work in the past few weeks getting this show ready for us.

A new member of the rocky main cast Emma Archer was asked her favorite part of the process and she said "Of course, my favorite part of the show is the actual performances because they’re so high energy and it’s so fun to show everyone our hard work. Besides that, I love rehearsing with the full cast. The main cast rehearses separately from the whorus for most of the rehearsal process because we have different material to learn, but we rehearse together for the last few weeks and those rehearsals are a blast." Emma was in the whorus last year and re-auditioned and got the role of Magenta, she is thrilled to be playing this role and seeing both sides of the rehearsal process.

Now on the other side of the spectrum we have Quinn Bennett who has been Frank-n-furter for 3 years now. When asked his favorite part he said "Ohhh what ISN'T my favorite part of the show? The people first and foremost are incredible - some of the most kind, talented people I’ve met and gotten to work with. The other thing that’s coming to mind is hearing everyone scream when riff and magenta enter at the end of the show. It’s the loudest noise I’ve ever heard." Quinn is a beloved member of the Rocky cast and each year people come to see his version of Frank.

Another member of the cast Lily Sellars who is in the Whorus gives advice to anyone joining theater and thinking about joining LFC is to make friends while you're there she says "the connections you make within a show are truly once-in-a-lifetime". Which is important when we think about the message Rocky sends.

That's Sarah Coopers favorite part of the show. Sarah who is a whorus member and the "whoreographer" said "sex and love can be overwhelming and stressful. I feel like as a college kid there's all this pressure to either sleep around or find the love of your life, but this is such an important time for self exploration, there is no one size fits all for that kind of journey. Rocky creates a unique space that's refreshingly open and honest about sex. It's ridiculous and it's funny and it's hot!!! It's given me so much confidence in myself and has inspired me to take life and sex and identity a little less seriously. The cast and the audience get to take the movie and its message and create something so unique and incredible, it really is the most insane experience."

Rocky is truly a unique, fun, and hot show. It is so beloved by the community not only the students but Alumni as well and that's what really makes it a special experience. Everyone should really think about coming out to support this amazing show.

LFC will be performing The Rocky Horror Picture Show October 16th-19th at The Union. Doors open at 8pm, 21+ tickets are $8 and 18+ are $10. We hope you come see the show!
