LFC History

2002 - Present

“The Lost Flamingo Company got its start in 2002. OU students Hugh McMullen, Jes Daniels, Harland Chambers and Liz Brown decided that non-theater majors, people who had done theater in high school or recreationally, needed an outlet to continue performing. The name was coined after one of the founders described the company’s members as feeling like “lost flamingos” in other majors but really coming alive when performing.

Fall quarter of 2002, after gathering a small but interested group of students, the company launched with a production of David Ives' "All in the Timing.””

This was our charter season. Our founding members included:

· Liz Brown

· Jes Daniels

· Hugh McMullen

· Rachael Perry

“Rocky was started as a brainstorming session at the old Baker Center. We were talking about doing something different, maybe a musical, theatre related, but something the School of Theatre wouldn't do. When the idea of RHPS came up, we decided to further our idea of "Pirate Theatre." Meaning, make fun shows for the students, by the students. There were no rules, and the possibilities were endless.”

—Rachael Perry, First Director of RHPS

Winter 2007 – Harvey was LFC’s first production using a painted false wall (flats), built by the company in the side yard of an apartment.

Winter 2007 – “New” Baker Center opens. Weekly meetings and auditions were moved to the new building from the “old” baker center (now Scripps). Between 2007 and 2009 most of LFC’s straight plays were performed in the glorious new theater. It was a dream come true for the company. Unfortunately, due to the high overhead of operating the new building, renting the facility became too expensive and LFC was unable to use the space as frequently in following years.
