The Outsiders is our next and final play of the semester and we couldn’t be more excited for this show. Many people can remember reading “The Outsiders” by S.E Hinton in middle school. Some may remember reading it and falling in love with the story or maybe you remember watching the movie and falling in love with the actors on the screen. Many people have a backstory or connection with the story of The Outsiders

We hope you’ll join us November 22nd at 7pm and 23rd at 2pm to watch this spectacular show. Our directors are the heart and soul of this production so let’s get to know them and what went into getting this show on the stage.

June Meehan is the director of the outsiders and shared with us all about this show process. When asked why she chose this show to direct she said “because I think it is a great story about found family and perseverance.” You’ll find that this show has characters that you can relate to and feel for. Many people have found families, some company members may even consider LFC their found family, that means so much to everyone and seeing these actors portray that is something unforgettable.

That’s why Meehan wanted to direct this semester. She said “I wanted to be a director because I think it is a great honor. I have been a part of LFC and it is so great to be able to watch the new generation of actors.” LFC is a place where new people are constantly coming in and it’s so fun each semester to watch the new people bring their own take and energy to the show season.

Meehan in her interview also talked about some of the hard parts of being a director. She talked about the audition process which anyone who has ever sat in the audition room will understand. There are so many talented people each semester who audition and it’s so hard as a director to choose the cast which is what Meehan touched on. She said “the hardest part of this process was the audition process. We had so many talented people audition and it was very difficult to cast the show.”

Michael Zarefoss is the assistant director of this show. You may remember Micheal from being in 12 Angry Jurors last semester or Almost, Maine in the fall but he is trying something new this semester and we couldn’t be more excited. Zarefoss touched on why he wanted to do this show and he said “getting the opportunity to assist my director in bringing an LFC production with such a beautifully dramatic story to life is something I consider to be truly amazing.” It's such a touching thing to hear from our directors how much they have wanted to direct and how much time and care they’ve put into these shows.

Zarefoss also said “I love finding new ways that I can challenge myself and contribute as a member of the LFC, and becoming a director seemed like a great opportunity to push that idea even further.” Everyone has a space in LFC and finding ways for everyone to participate in their own ways is super important. Zarefoss has found a way to best use his talents in so many ways in this company and that’s truly special.

One thing Zarefoss has been excited about has been “to see what ways my cast and crew will connect and grow together over the course of the show’s production.” We are so excited to hear next week how much this cast and crew have grown together over these past few months. Mark your calendars next week for The Outsiders at Artswest! If you know someone in the show you can also buy them some flowers while supporting the company just use the link below!
