A Walk Down Memory Lane

Happy new year to our lost flamingos! To start our new year we are going to take a trip down memory lane with the help of our exec and directors board the past semester who wrote parts of this blog. A special recap from the voices of the company, stroll with us to wrap up our semester!

That’s a wrap on our Fall 2025 Show Season! We laughed, we cried, and we made so many new memories with one another. So many new faces joined our little theatre family and we couldn’t be happier about it. It truly was a semester to remember, so let’s go over it now.

We’ve had a wonderful semester over here at LFC and it’s been so great getting to meet brand new people and reconnect with old friends again. We had some crazy attendance at our meetings this year! At our first meeting of the semester we had over 140 attendees and at our second we had over 115! Our involvement this semester was also incredibly high, with 93 active members.

As always, we had some meeting shenanigans going on, with new moves by the exec board during show weeks to drum up some spirit and excitement for our wonderful cast and crews. On Rocky Horror week we all wore red lipstick, on Puffs week we dressed in house colors, introductions were given in “Ye Olde English” for Boy My Greatness week, and we rounded it out dressing like Socs and Greasers for The Outsiders

We also had many accomplishments in the technical world for our 4 shows. This year we were able to incorporate mics for the first time in a long time. Some productions used them on actors, while others used them for area applications. With the new audio equipment, we were able to bring in more tech roles to accommodate the new equipment. This semester we had back to back to back shows which required a lot of coordination and planning to successfully get each show set up and torn down in time. All the directors and tech members really helped out to accomplish this.

We spent our semester raising money for our shows in various ways as well. It’s all about finding ways to raise money while helping our community and finding a fun way to do it. We had a successful ad sale day and had 3 sponsors, The Union, Union Street Diner, and O'Betty's. Outside of our business sponsors, our friends and family sponsorship program Flamingo Friends was thriving with 26 flamingo friends joining us. A huge thank you to all of our Flamingo Friends. We also had various other fundraisers, our notable ones being our Rocky Horror raffle, fall fest, and even a dine to donate with Texas Roadhouse. We had a huge accomplishment of raising over $2,000 this semester with the help of our company members, the community, and our fundraising chair.

Outside the fundraising events our social/alumni chair worked to make a few events outside of our show to keep as many people involved as possible. They put together our annual big/little reveal, a fan favorite of the flamingos. They also hosted events like a video game competition and a white elephant potluck during finals week.

There is so much it takes to get our shows on their feet each semester. The exec board and directors worked really hard to make this one of the best semesters yet. Our directors recap for us in this next segment all about their shows and accomplishments they had.

Rocky Horror celebrated its 50th Anniversary this year and the 22nd production here in Athens! It was a thrilling ride with a fast turnaround for the show; all of the actors did an incredible job committing to their roles and bringing their all to the rehearsal process. Alexis Butt, the assistant director, accomplished two amazing partnerships this semester. The first partnership she worked on was O’Betty’s. She helped pitch a specific Rocky-themed hotdog for the week of the show that was sold during the day. Alexis also conducted a promotional shoot at the venue, which was posted by LFC and shared through O’Betty’s social media, further promoting the performances. The second partnership Alexis worked on was getting our official 18+ afterparty for Rocky at Casa Nueva through Say Gay & DJ Mouseknuckles. We introduced two new “Virgin Games” that were a hit with the audience. Anna Martin, the director, shared that her favorite additions this year was seeing all of the preshow numbers that the cast were committed to perform ranging from Rihanna songs to Chicago. We have appreciated our time together and are grateful to continue this yearly tradition with the Athen’s community.

Chloe Dixon the Puffs director tells us about the Puffs and their accomplishments. Directing Puffs was one of the most rewarding experiences of my college career so far. I think what made it so special was the people. Surrounding myself with a group who is genuinely one of the most kind is something that can oftentimes be difficult to do. While we spent a lot of time rehearsing and getting down to business, there was also plenty of time for fun. One of my favorite adventures were the early ones to Earl's Coop after rehearsal, it was easy, and everyone had an excuse to tag along--they were hungry! We also spent plenty of time making fools of ourselves, mostly me, which made it easier to relax ourselves and all feel human. No one was above any other in Puffs, and that's what made it so special.

Our next show we Boy My Greatness and director Sarah Comer tells us about their experience with the show. It was such an honor to direct this show, and I’m endlessly proud of my cast and crew for pulling it off so well. As one of the first productions outside of NYC, we had a high bar to clear, and we cleared it with flying colors if I do say so myself! It was so wonderful working with the wonderful playwright Zoe Senese-Grossberg to bring her vision to life here in Ohio. Despite the heaviness of the show, we always made time for fun both inside and outside of the rehearsal space, with nearly weekly cast bonding sessions and a (continuously) thriving discord server. “The Boys”, as I’ve so affectionately named them, have become some of my best friends, and I’ll consider myself blessed if I ever get to work with them again! Thank you all for joining us at The Globe to meet our boy players, it meant the world to us all over here in boy-land

Our final show that wrapped up our semester was The Outsiders and June Meehan gives us an inside scoop on how their show went. The Outsiders was such an amazing show! We sold out Saturday night and were close to a full house on Sunday. I had an amazing cast and crew that left me with minimal stress throughout the entire process and immense pride. It was such a fun show to work with and with such incredible people and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The weekend was spectacular. As always, stay gold.

We are extremely grateful for all that our company was able to accomplish this semester and can’t wait to do it again. Our next semester will be the best one yet as our ever evolving company strives for the best. Keep an eye out for our semester reveal for the spring semester and many more blogs to come!

A note from Elle M: blog shadow writer reveal!! If you didn't already know I've been writing the blogs since they started and it has been a joyus time being able to do this for LFC. I will unfortunaly be taking a step away from the board so this was an important blog to me it being my last one. Thank you for reading and supporting these. I hope you've loved them just as much as I have. Passing the torch is hard but I can't wait to read what our next fundraising/community outreach chair will do!

Signing off Elle Mitsch
